Fashion Diary: Currently seeking inspiration

“Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the same horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time. That is the life of men. Now, women forget all those things they don't want to remember, and remember everything they don't want to forget. The dream is the truth. Then they act and do things accordingly.” - Zora Neale Hurston

I feel like Zora set a high standard for women in her novel THEIR EYES WERE WATCHING GOD. But that is one of my favorite quotes in her book. It's never easy to see our dreams as the truth but I think the obstacles that we endure make us appreciate our dreams even more when we achieve them.

I am currently in a place where I am seeking inspiration and daring to be bold enough to believe in my own dreams. It can be frustrating sometimes because you often are the only one who understands your ultimate goal. But that is all that is required. I am learning that we don't have a responsibility to make people understand our vision. We have a responsibility to manifest our visions.

My Life at Whole Foods

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE to cook! As part of my new Get It Right and Get It Tight plan, I've been exploring healthier food choices and better meal options. I used to have the preconceived notion that eating right was going to cost me so much more than my usual grocery store trips but of course I was wrong! I spent about $72 bucks on my last trip to Whole Foods Market. I bought cage-free eggs, grass fed organic beef, free range chicken breast, tons of organic fruits and veggies, Naked Juice protein and fruit smoothies, and some other random things. I think my most impressive purchase was fresh cut locally-made spinach and whole wheat pasta for about $1.50 a serving! Check back soon for an original recipe.

A few of my healthy goodies from my Whole Foods trip!

Chakula Tayari: Mushroom and Spinach Flatbread

This is my first guest post. I have talked about my friend and her blog before and now she is finally sharing some of her tasty recipes with me. I can honestly say that she is the reason I wish I was a vegetarian. Alas, it is very difficult for me to make such a commitment.

So here is her recipe for her mushroom and spinach flatbread
This is one of my quickest meal options that always leaves me wanting more. It proves that anything sauteed with garlic and red onion can do no wrong. Throw in spinach, mushroom, and zucchini and you have magic in your mouth. Throw that one some Trader Joe's Flat Bread with a thick line of garlic hummus and you have dinner.

What you need:
  • flat bread
  • mushrooms
  • spinach
  • zucchini
  • garlic
  • red onion
  • your favorite hummus
  • evoo

 Enjoy!

Great Eats in SOFLO....

So there is this restaurant (J. Alexanders) that I basically go to once a week with my mom. We have this problem. We find good eats, and we must have it once a week.  So this week, I have been like really sick. So more than likely I won't be going this week. But I wanted to share a few pictures from the last time that I was there. I had mac and cheese with fish tacos, which had spicy mayo and avocado. I live for avocado.
 Even the menus are cute......
